Featured on The Design Files - Camberwell Residence

Camberwell Residence interior design by Marcia Hong

See how subtle, considered updates completely re-shaped this home.

I’m excited to share that the Camberwell Residence has been featured on The Design Files.

This project is a lovely example of how thoughtful design and a clear vision can completely refresh a home - all without major structural changes. Working closely with the clients, the focus was on creating calm, connected spaces that feel warm, welcoming and practical for family life.

Melbourne home transformation — Marcia Hong

The feature highlights how the original 1990s house was transformed through a series of careful design choices: natural textures, layered materials, soft tonal shifts and a layout that feels more intuitive for day-to-day living. Rather than opening up walls or extending the footprint, the changes came from clarity around flow, proportion and light.

On the Camberwell project page, you can see how each space was approached with that same balance of practicality and refinement - from the gentle transitions between living zones to the warmth added through timber, stone and soft furnishings. The kitchen and main living area, especially, were updated to feel lighter, more open and better connected to how the family uses the home.

If you’d like a deeper look at the process, you can read the full feature here: Read the article on The Design Files

It’s a pleasure to see this project recognised, and lovely to share more of the story behind it.
